Pride and Glory

By Marshall Fine

Rating:

Who's in it: Colin Farrell, Edward Norton

What's it about: A family of cops struggles with a massive police corruption scandal.

Who to trust?: It starts with several cops killed in a drug bust - but before long, it turns into a corruption scandal involving rogue police who are in league with a drug dealer. Pulled into the investigation reluctantly, a disillusioned cop (Norton) discovers that his patrolman brother-in-law (Farrell) may be dirty. Everyone's got something to hide, including their police-official father (Jon Voight), who doesn't want the cops tarred by a scandal. This hard-hitting drama blends tough action with tougher talk, as family tensions build until they boil over. Farrell is aggressive and vicious, while Norton blends strength with street smarts as a guy who's not afraid to fight back, no matter who gets hurt. Add in primitive racial attitudes, brutal violence and simmering anger and you've got a strong film that has the feel of '70s classics like "Serpico."

Long story short: This cop tale is arresting entertainment.
