What's it about: A woman (Thomas) comes to live with her sister after being released from jail for killing her own child.
Pain and longing: In this French film, the British Thomas fits in like a native as a woman still suffering the guilt of her crime. As the movie eventually reveals, she is a victim as well. But this isn't a story about a crime; it's about two sisters, separated for years, who learn to talk to and trust each other. Thomas is heart-breaking as the very quiet, withdrawn ex-con who tries to reconnect with her family - and her life. Elsa Zylberstein matches her as the understanding younger sister who longs to have her older sister back. It's a striking and touching film, told in a low-key way but building to a multi-Kleenex conclusion.
Long story short: You'll never see the ending coming.
